Boat Races in the Pool

To finish off our year in AP Physics 1, we participated in the school's annual cardboard boat race. Our goal was to build a boat using three large sheets of cardboard and rolls of tape, strong enough to travel across a swimming pool. There were no strict guidelines on construction, leaving teams to determine for themselves the best possible design to win.
After two weeks of construction, race day arrived. Anticipation was in the air, as every team was nervous to see if their boats would sink under the weight of the rowers. Some boats were incredibly success, crossing the pool and back in under 90 seconds. Other, less fortunate people took over five minutes to cross the pool. There were a few boats that sunk within the first couple seconds, quickly ending their trip.
Though there were varying levels of success, the boat races were certainly an unforgettable and engaging experience.
